At a time when Malayalam actors are thronging Kollywood, Tamil actor Bala is making foray into Malayalam films with �Kalabham�. It is a romantic musical film with Navya Nair playing the role of Bala�s ladylove. In the film, Sivarama Bhagavathar is a well-known musician and a priest at Narayanapuram temple. Karutha Pakshikal (2006)
Synopsis Murugan came to Kerala from Thirunelveli in search of a job. He now lives in a slum with three children - Mayil, Azhakappan and Malli who is blind. Murugan who makes a living by ironing people's clothes, is hopeful someday she will be able to see. He takes her to every free eye-care camp in the neighbourhood. His only support comes from Muthu Annan who makes pappad, his wife Kanakamma and daughter Krishnaveni. With his meager savings Murugan buys a four-wheeled push cart and moves around various housing colonies in town, ironing people's clothes. Every day he meets different kinds of people, some who show kindness, some who show sympathy, some who show arrogance and some who shower insults. There is a vast section of humanity living in the slums. They eke out a living doing odd jobs, picking rags, rummaging through waste heaps, begging and doing whatever it takes to keep body and soul together. They too are human beings, but society largely ignores them. Director Kamal turns his attention to one such slum in his new film Karutha Pakshikal. A mad pregnant lady runs inside a temple and closes the door. She gives birth to a boy at the feet of Lord Krishna�s idol and breathes her last. The doors of the temple are closed, as the people believe that the birth of a mad woman�s child in �garbhagudi� is a bad omen. The boy, named Arjun (Vishnu Vardhan Babu), grows up under the guardianship of his grandmother (Manorama). He goes to work as a bodyguard to Satya (Mamta Mohandas) the sister of a rich landlord, Pedababu (Nassar). Arjun and his grandmother live in the out house of Pedababu�s bungalow. Arjun is ill-treated by everyone. As an astrologer says that Satya�s first husband will be killed and she will live happily with her second husband, Pedababu plans to have Satya marry Arjun first. Then, he conspires to kill him and marry Satya to a rich man. However, Lord Krishna (Nagarjuna) comes to Arjun�s assistance. Arjun gains some powers from his companionship with the Lord. He overcomes the evils that threaten his peace and family life. He also succeeds in reopening the doors of the temple. Arjun then dies by jumping of a tall building because of his faith in Lord Krishna that he will be saved.
